Device details & photos

A few details.
A clearer answer.

Find the device’s model and identifier, then give Dave a clear look at its condition. If a detail is missing, you can still start a conversation.

Find your serial number or IMEI.

A serial number identifies the device. An IMEI identifies cellular hardware. You only need to share what your device has; Wi-Fi-only devices may have no IMEI.

iPhone / iPad
  1. Open Settings.
  2. Choose General, then About.
  3. Scroll to Serial Number or IMEI. Touch and hold to copy.

An iPad has an IMEI only when it supports cellular service.

  2. Choose About phone or About tablet.
  3. Find the model, serial number, and IMEI if available.

Older models may put details under Status. Wi-Fi-only devices do not need an IMEI.

Mac
  1. Open the Apple menu in the corner of the screen.

  3. Copy the model name and serial number shown.

If the Mac does not turn on, check the underside or original barcode packaging. If its logic board was replaced, the printed serial may be outdated.

Windows computer
  1. For the model and specifications, open Settings → System → About.
  2. For a serial number, check the manufacturer label underneath or on the back.
  3. Dell calls the identifier a Service Tag; manufacturer support apps can also show it.

Do not use the Windows Device ID or Product ID as a hardware serial number. Windows About does not reliably show serial numbers on all brands.

PlayStation 5
  1. Open Settings → System → System Software.
  2. Select Console Information.
  3. Find Serial Number.

The serial and model number can also be found at the bottom when the console is upright; the base may cover the label. Other PlayStation models differ.

Console / camera / other label fallback
  1. Look for a label marked Model, Serial, S/N, or Service Tag on the back or underside.
  2. Check original packaging if the label is missing.
  3. If it is unreadable, send a clear photo and describe the device.

Locations vary by manufacturer. Do not ask users to open a case or remove a battery for this form. This is practical UI guidance rather than a universal manufacturer claim.

Can’t find the number, or the device won’t turn on? Include a clear label or box photo if you can, and choose “I can’t find it” in the form. Never send passwords or account sign-in details.

Show Dave what you have.

FrontShow the whole device.
Back / labelKeep the label readable.
Any damageTake a clear close-up.

Place the device on a flat surface in good light. Keep the image sharp and show its condition honestly. Include useful accessories. These are illustrations; your device may look different.

For a laptop, show the open screen, keyboard, underside, and any damage. For a camera, include the body, lens mount/model, and glass condition. For gaming or audio, show the unit, its label, connectors, and accessories. Do not open a case or remove a battery just to find a number.
